    INTELLECTUAL PROPERTIY

The technology foundation of Acornex’s intellectual property results from the invention by an Acornex founder of novel non-peptide oligoguanidinylated molecular carriers built on carbohydrate and cyclitol scaffolds, which modulate aqueous solubility of conjugated drugs, transport them across biomembranes including BBB, and also show tissue/organelle selectivity.
Acornex and Postech (where the invention was made) have signed a licensing agreement for exclusive worldwide rights to the registered platform patents and their pending patent applications in the major countries,

and all other subsequent patents on the related technology coming out of the inventor’s laboratory:

1) Inositol-based Molecular Transporters, and Processes for the Preparation Thereof, S. K. Chung, O.Y. Jeon, K. K. Maiti, and S. H. Yu, Korean Patent, No. 10-0578732, 2006; PCT-WO 2005/085159 A1, September 2005; filed for all other major country patents.

2) Molecular Transporters based on Sugar or its Analogues, and Processes for the Preparation Thereof, S. K. Chung, O. Y. Jeon, K. K. Maiti, S, H. Yu, W. S. Lee, Korean Patent No. 10-0699279, 2007; PCT-WO 2006/115312 A1, November 2006; filed for all other major country patents.

3) Alditol or Inositol-based Molecular Transporters, S. K. Chung, K. K. Maiti, W. S.Lee, Korean Patent No.10-0849033, July 2008; Japanese Patent filed September 2006; filed for all other major country patents.

4) Inositol or trehalose derivatives and a pharmaceutical composition for treating neurodegenerative diseases containing the same, S. K. Chung, W. S. Lee, B.Kim,J. K. Im, Subhash C. Ghosh, Korean Patent No. 10-1021078; PCT-WO2010/011012; and as usual this patent has been filed for all other major country patents, March 2009.

* Some scientific and technical results on the subject were published as preliminary communications: Angewandte Chemie Int. Ed. 2006, 45, 2907-2912; Angewandte Chemie Int. Ed., 2007, 46, 5880-5884; Chemical Communications, 2009,4669-4671; J. Controlled Release, 2009, 136, 140-147, and received some publicity in the national daily newspapers in Korea.
